LE COSTAUD MADE-TO-MEASURE is the reinforced set of hairpin table legs whose height you set to the centimetre, between 16 and 115 cm, under a TV unit as much as under a poseur table.
Made in France, it starts from a single bar of Ø 12 mm solid round steel, bent into a V, spread 100 mm apart at the top and closed at floor level by a loop, welded to the two wings of a corner mounting plate measuring 126 × 126 mm, 46 mm wide and 3 mm thick.
That bar runs plumb, at 90° to the plate. A third rod is added to it, welded at two points: onto the corner of the angle plate, then diagonally down to the top of the loop, which it meets at floor level. It does not reach the floor, the bearing point stays that of the bent bar.
The figure you enter is the height of the finished leg, plate included: that is what you add to the thickness of the top to get the height of your piece.
The rods stay 100 mm apart at the top whatever height you order: the taller the leg, the more upright it stands.
The corner plate sits in the corner of the top: the leg is fitted in sets of 4, one per corner.
Each leg holds 50 kg and takes tops from 30 to 200 cm in solid wood, plywood, marble, granite, HPL laminate, glass or recycled plastic, up to Ø 90 cm on round and oval shapes.
Powder coating bakes a polyester powder onto the steel, with no solvent: the film covers every weld bead and the bend, where liquid paint thins out in corners. The lower weld of the third rod forms an inside angle against the loop, exactly the spot where liquid paint pools on one side and pulls away on the other.
It resists moisture, which allows a covered terrace, a conservatory or a wet room.
Wood screws and self-adhesive felt pads are included. Three Ø 6 mm holes are all it takes: place the plate in the corner, pilot-drill, screw, and the leg is on in minutes.
Order all four legs to the same figure: it is the set that sets the plane of the table, not the single leg.
On a glass, marble or granite top, bond the plate instead of drilling it, using a flexible MS polymer adhesive rated for stone or glass.
On a melamine or soft-core worktop, check the panel is rigid enough before turning it into a table: those boards are designed to rest on cabinets.
If your height matches one already in the catalogue, LE COSTAUD COFFEE TABLE in 30 and 40 cm and LE COSTAUD in 71 and 90 cm use the same three-rod design, off the shelf. For the slimmest line on a lighter top, or for an angled leg, L'ORIGINAL MADE-TO-MEASURE keeps to two rods.
16 to 30 cm: lifting a low, loaded unit
In this band the leg does not create a piece, it transforms one. Four 20 cm hairpins under a full sideboard, a TV unit or a second-hand dresser lift the volume off the floor: the line lightens and the silhouette changes era, with no sanding and no repainting. Remove the original feet, screw four corner plates in, and a box sitting on the floor becomes a piece on legs.
What changes here is what you can lift: a sideboard full of crockery, a loaded chest or a full storage crate, where a slimmer base would have you empty the piece first.
35 to 45 cm: stone coffee table, bench and end-of-bed seat
A sofa seat sits between 38 and 42 cm: this is the band that lines a coffee table up with the edge of the cushion. At that height, 50 kg per leg opens the door to the tops a living room asks for and wood does not give: a marble slab, a slice of travertine, a polished concrete top.
With a top 120 to 200 cm long, the same figure gives a hallway bench or an end-of-bed seat you can actually sit on; the hairpin silhouette keeps the rug visible underneath.
66 to 78 cm: dining table, desk and console
The most requested band, and the one where made to measure absorbs an unusual thickness: with an 8 cm slab, order 68 cm to land at a finished 76 cm. It is also the band where length counts, and the 200 cm allowance saves cutting a top back to suit the base.
With no rail, the whole volume under the top stays free: knees clear it and a pedestal drawer unit rolls under the desk without hitting a stretcher.
85 to 115 cm: worktop, island and poseur table
A kitchen worktop sits between 90 and 95 cm: a fitted top at that height extends the island instead of creating a second level. Above it, the 100 to 115 cm band is the one the stock range does not cover; this is where a poseur table, a reception counter or a high workshop table gets built.
It is the most demanding set-up in the range, a top that is both high and often wide, and the one where the third rod counts most.
Commercial fit-out and production runs
Bent, welded and coated in France, it suits café tables, coworking desks and retail display tables, where a table is not only loaded but knocked about: people lean on the edge, push it aside to pass, move it without lifting it.
Ordering one height for a whole batch removes the on-site cutting, and the eight finishes match a base to a colour scheme without repainting, from RAL 1023 yellow to RAL 5002 ultramarine blue.

For square and rectangular shapes, we recommend a length of table top between 40 and 200 cm.
For round and oval shapes, we recommend a table top diameter of 90 cm maximum.
"Le Costaud Sur Mesure" is also suitable for kitchen islands and worktops.

- Unsheltered exteriors: Not recommended (even with powder coating, water accumulation in the tubes could pose a long-term problem)
