LES SUBTILS is the set of 2 console table legs that carries a wooden top at standing height, in a narrow hallway as much as behind a sofa.
Made in Montpellier, France, each leg starts from a single bar of flat steel 40 × 5 mm, bent four times into a frame 900 mm high and 295 mm wide. Both ends fold horizontally inwards over 100 mm and form the mounting plates themselves, each drilled with 2 holes Ø 6.5 mm; 95 mm stay clear between them.
The bar is bent on edge: seen from the front, the leg shows only 5 mm of steel, it is its 40 mm set on edge that carry the top.
The frame screws under the top with 4 screws, 8 for the set. Each leg holds 20 kg, 40 kg for the pair, under a top in solid wood, raw wood or plywood from 60 to 140 cm long and 30 to 50 cm wide.
Marble, granite and glass are not suited to this base.
Eight powder-coated colours, from matt black RAL 9005 to gold, cover the steel with a baked film that resists moisture and allows a covered terrace or a conservatory. The dark matt varnish leaves the raw steel visible, its shifts of tone and its rolling marks: it stays indoors. All nine colours are shown on the Ripaton finishes page.
The wood screws and the self-adhesive rubber pads are in the box. You mark your pilot holes, you screw both frames under the top, you stick the pads under the base: the console stands in minutes, with no cutting and no welding.
For a coffee table drawn from the same bent flat steel bar, see LES CLASSIQUES. For a height other than 90 cm, L'AUDACIEUX MADE-TO-MEASURE is ordered from 20 to 110 cm.
The narrow hallway
An entrance corridor is hard to furnish: whatever you put there eats into the passage. Seen from the front, LES SUBTILS leaves nothing but a 5 mm line on each side of the top. The furniture exists, the circulation stays open, and the wall behind still shows between the two frames.
Behind the sofa
Set against the back, a 140 cm board on these two legs closes the living room without a partition. At 90 cm high, it sits above the seat line: you put down a glass, a lamp, a book, from the sofa as much as from the room, without bending.
The bedroom, standing dressing table
A top 30 to 50 cm wide is enough for a mirror, a jewellery tray and two bottles. You get ready standing, facing the wall, without the stool and the bulk of a classic dressing table. A solid oak top warms up matt black steel; birch plywood pulls the whole thing lighter.
Reception desk, shop, standing counter
90 cm is a standing height, the height of a counter. In a hotel, a practice or a shop, these legs carry a drop-off shelf, a signing station or a narrow display along a wall. The set of 2 is ordered by volume, several identical consoles leave the same workshop.
The covered terrace
Under an awning or in a conservatory, a powder-coated finish holds moisture back and allows a service table in a sheltered spot. LES SUBTILS leaves the Ripaton workshop in Montpellier, France, where the steel is bent, drilled and coloured before being packed with its screws.

Each foot can support 20 kilos, for a total weight of 40 kilos for two feet. Depending on your project and the type of table top you're going to use, certain legs may be more or less suitable.
Our legs are designed for use under wooden tops (rough, solid, plywood). We advise against using them with marble, granite or glass tops.

This table base is available in nine professional-quality finishes that don't just look good - they protect.
Fine-texture powder-coated finishes: matt black (RAL 9005), high-gloss white (RAL 9003), cream (RAL 9001), green (RAL 6011), yellow (RAL 1023), blue (RAL 5002).
Metallic sandblasted effect powder-coated finishes: copper (90354), gold (Y2316F).
Powder coating involves baking electrostatic polyester powder at 200°C. The result? A 60-80 micron protective coating that resists :
- Humidity: Rust-free, sheltered outdoor use (covered terrace, veranda)
- UV: No discoloration in sunlight
- Impact: Harder than simple varnish
- Corrosion: Integrated anti-corrosion protection.
